Memory - Connections Matter Art-in-Science XIV On the exhibition, Memory-Connections Matter "Artist Takes the Time to Remember: In the final days of a decade of brain research that is changing the way society views itself, Moss-Vreeland’s site is an invitation to think differently." The Baltimore Sun Patricia Meisol, 1999 "Memory-Connections Matter was commissioned as the Millennial Art-in-Science Exhibition for the University City Science Center, EKG, Philadelphia, 1999-2000. It is a multi-disciplinary installation that explores the art and science of memory and its relationship to learning and creativity. Moss-Vreeland worked with a neuropsychologist in the development of her site. She integrated this research, new images and her poetry to create a metaphoric walk through the brain. Visitors learned about art and science in contemporary culture, while being invited to contribute their own triggered memories, designed as part of the interactivity of the exhibition design. Examples of responses left behind in each "station", became new vision and collective memory with the public, changing the site daily. This opened up new possibilities for considering memory, creativity. and art. In 2004, Memory-Connections Matter traveled to the University of St. Thomas, St.Paul, MN, to become the central focus for the conference, Fields of Mind, where Patricia Moss-Vreeland was the keynote speaker along with Dr. Barbara Malamut, science advisor to her exhibition. |
