Drawings and Paintings:
In my drawings and paintings, I explore the relationship between memory, place and the environment. I draw examples from nature to illuminate everything in nature is in flux, of constant growth, decay and re-generation. These remnants of what was once whole reflect upon nature’s process of how things break down over time, and what manages to stay alive and take new form. I found this parallel to the processes embedded in the making of memory. I contrast nature with humanity's impact on place through images of logging, pipelines, and petrochemical and nuclear energy, often hidden away from our sight. Monuments of nature in contrast to manmade monuments of energy consumption that impact us and interrupt animal habitats. I explore these ideas that shape our memory, with hope to inspire connections and awareness for change.
