Paintings 2024-2025 The Spaces between Us
In these paintings I respond to the social atmosphere we inhabit—the fractured attention, widening divisions, subtle dislocations, and a growing sense of isolation, that increasingly mediates how we see and feel about one another. Figures and animals animate the subject, with landscapes that are part observed, part imagined, part realistic, part dreamlike; and still lives that give pause to a quiet harmony. Figures are isolated from one another, some may appear as ghost figures, thoughts of someone else, imaginings and memories, all lining up in an actual landscape or dream. I include deer as counterpoint to the figures. They gaze out at us, in an active exchange with each other.; humanity and nature, where visual forms echo the emotional landscapes we carry.
